Alfred is a pretty big fan of Obama, and as a result he talks about him a lot over dinner with Peter. Peter doesn’t really understand what his dad means, but he’s taken his dad’s appreciation and amplified it. He’s a complete Obama fanboy, and during Obama’s election year he managed to convince Alfred to buy him a large cardboard cut-out of the guy. He still has it in his closet, and will pull it out every so often so he can say that Obama came over to watch him build (and destroy) Lego cities.
Peter also loves Legos, but that’s another story.
I’ll have a lot more to post here once chapter one is finally posted.
Until then, I’m sorry.

myfuckinglestat asked: Arthur, 50 roses, 4-27-48-49
Pre-divorce (Prologue timeframe)
4. What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy?
There’s a grocery store down the street from where they live. Arthur would probably grab something quick if he were buying for himself, or something healthy if he were buying for the three of them. Otherwise Alfred would probably step in and they’d try to go out to eat.
27. What is their biggest regret?
He doesn’t really have any significant regrets at this point in time. When he was younger, he used to fight with his father over small things, and he kind of regrets those as he would just be destroyed if the same fights happened between himself and Peter. However, that’s not really a giant regret as it’s just something he might think about a couple times a year or something.
48. How do they express love?
He hates public displays of affection, and really doesn’t like being very obnoxious about his love. He tries to be casual about it. If he’s passing Alfred in the hall, maybe a kiss while he’s walking and then he just continues on, holding while they’re watching a movie next to each other on the couch, etc. With Peter, he makes him laugh. Kisses his forehead, raspberries, playing with his fingers and toes when he was a baby, etc.
49. If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like?
See answer for 49 below. Not much difference from this point in time, except he’s more likely to snap at people and will defend Alfred in the prologue timeframe.
Present day:
4. What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy?
There are a few restaurants near where Arthur lives in the present time of the AU.
27. What is their biggest regret?
He hates that he had to put Peter in a split-family situation. Arthur moved to England while Alfred remained in the US, and he gets Peter every summer and every other Christmas/holiday season. He doesn’t fully regret the divorce, but he’s torn up about the situation with Peter (though the situation was bad right before their divorce, which will be explained in the fic). Peter came out of it less than stellar.
48. How do they express love?
Arthur isn’t a flamboyant kind of guy. He hates public displays of affection and would much rather sit at home and watch a movie or work on dinner together than go out (though going out once a month or less is a nice treat that he can really appreciate). With Peter growing older, he isn’t very sure how to fully show his love/adoration, so he ends up buying things. He buys Peter the nicest toys, pet fish, whatever Peter wants. He used to sit down and build Lego kits with Peter. He didn’t care much for Legos, but spending time working on something together was a way for them to spend time together and screw around.
49. If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like?
Arthur is incredibly non-confrontational (he’s grown very calm with age :|). His first response will always be to run. However, if something were to happen to Peter, he would go for the face (maybe the groin if he were confident that he could make contact at the first strike). Fist to the face—not very smooth, high chance of failing, but he’d make it matter.

Sure, the lyrics might be off, and the message really applies to four years before the story begins, but I like this song.
